Pazhassi Raja is a historical subject. Mammootty, Hariharan and MT Vasudevan Nair who gave Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha to malayalam cinema is now doing this film. The story is all about a King who belong to Kottayam royal family, revolt against the Britishers. Till today, most of the Indians will say "Sepoy Mutiny of 1857" as the first war of Independence.
But, Pazhassi raja was the first Indian who fought against British in 1796. Mammotty plays the role of Raja, and Kanika, the young heroine plays the wife ( queen ) of Raja. Sarath kumar makes his debut in malayalam as the friend to Raja. Padmapriya plays a tribal village girl role.
